Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard about the Fogo Island Inn. praised by Oprah Winfrey, The New York Times and now Gwyneth Paltrow — who recently spent some time there, according to her Instagram — the design-savvy hotel in Joe Batt’s Arm, Newfoundland, is synonymous with complete serenity. created by Newfoundland-born, Norway-based architect Todd Saunders, the modern space is dotted with floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the surrounding views, and spare furnishings so as not to compete with the appeal outdoors. Click through to see inside the luxurious retreat.

Perched atop the rocky coast of the North Atlantic Ocean, the modern space feels at one with its pristine landscape.

There are seven seasons on Fogo Island, from blistering winters to a breathtaking ice season, berry picking season and warm, temperate summers that allow for frolicking by the water.

Gwyneth Paltrow Instagrammed a snap of this very spot, and captioned it, “Dinner spot #heaven #newfoundland #fogo.”

White-painted shiplap walls in the lobby play off the striking ocean views. Rustic stacked logs, rocking chairs and a wood-burning fireplace create a welcoming atmosphere.

Pristine views of the ocean make way for whale enjoying in the summer, and iceberg enjoying in the spring.

The restaurant at Fogo Island Inn is one of its greatest draws, showcasing local cuisine under a dramatic vaulted ceiling with wildflower-shaped chandeliers by Dutch designer Frank Tjepkema — and front row seats to the ocean, of course.

Icebergs have been known to float by and whales occasionally breach off-shore.

The suites honor standard Newfoundland decoration through a modern lens.

The Inn has 29 guests suites and four suite types — and you’ll absolutely want to book the ocean view.

A colorful red couch welcomes hours gazing at the ocean or snuggling up with a good book.

The all-white bathroom’s deep soaker tub looks all sorts of dreamy.

Fogo Island Inn features a library on the first floor, with an extensive collection of fiction and non-fiction works about the history and culture of Newfoundland and Canada. It’s open to the general public of Fogo Island.

The lounge and bar areas feature a signature line of new Newfoundland-inspired cocktails, with garnishes such as Fogo Island berries, juniper-infused syrup, and dried wildflower petals. The cocktails are often shaken or stirred over iceberg ice depending on the season.Fogo Island Inn features a contemporary “white cube” art gallery on the first floor, which is also open to the public. The gallery features works by selected artists who have completed residencies through Fogo Island Arts.

Located on the roofing deck, the Inn’s two hot tubs offer a warm spot to swim when you’re not in the mood for a dip in the cold Atlantic.

Two northern European architects based in Norway, Sami Rintala and Dagur Eggertsson, designed the modern wood saunas.

Among the lots of activities on Fogo Island — foraging for mushrooms, hiking and rowing, to name a few — are bonfire nights, which Gwyneth Paltrow partook in. She posted her experience on Instagram and captioned it “#endoftheearth.”

Designed by Nick Herder, Fogo Island Inn’s 37-seat cinema was inspired by classic Art Deco-style motion picture houses but adapted to fit within the contemporary design of the space.

The meeting room represents a rejection of all things routine and ordinary, making it the ideal place to get creative juices flowing. With sensational ocean views, it’s a treat for the senses — just like the rest of the breathtaking Inn.
